Maria Cuomo-Cole, 2007. (AP/Jennifer Graylock) We've said it before: Documentary filmmaking -- it's the new Peace Corps, the new priesthood, the new Internet startup, the new big thing. It's the vocation that every nice liberal family sends a kid into. The release this week of the eight documentary shorts on the so-called "shortlist" for a possible Oscar nod just proves the growing dominance of political scions in the field. No Pelosis or Kerrys on the list this time, but there's the ubiquitous Rory Kennedy, producer of "Killing in the Name"; and "Living for 32," a doc about a survivor of the Virginia Tech massacre-turned-gun control activist, produced by Maria Cuomo-Cole (daughter of Mario, wife of Kenneth) and directed by Kevin Breslin (son of Jimmy).
