As EW reported this morning, starting this fall TeenNick will devote their 12AM-2AM programming block to reviving old Nickelodeon programs from the 1990s, and are appropriately dubbing the block "The '90s Are All That." They got the idea from the surge of social media groups and fansites devoted to shows like All That, Rugrats, The Adventures of Pete & Pete and Clarissa Explains It All, populated by twentysomething children of the '90s who are nostalgic for the shows of their youth.Keith Dawkins, senior VP and general manager of TeenNick, says Nickelodeon's programming strategy in the '90s was "completely devoted" to kids ages 9 through 11. "It
was ground-breaking and for the young viewers, a powerful and pivotal
time in their lives. Those kids who are now 22, 23 and 24 want to bring
that back," he told EW. I'm not a part of any Facebook groups on the matter, but as a self-identifying member of the Nick Kid generation, this news makes my forearm mermaid tattoo dance with joy! (Pete & Pete fans, you understand.) I will definitely be tuning in, especially if Salute Your Shorts makes the cut. If I can manage to stay up that late in my old age, that is.
