Glenn Beck Hires Former HuffPost CEO Betsy Morgan To Head Website The Blaze (WebNewser)
Former Huffington Post CEO and CBSNews.com general manager Betsy Morgan has been named president of Glenn Beck's Web venture, The Blaze. Morgan -- who spent 10 years at CBS News before jumping to HuffPost, departing there in June 2009 -- will now be tasked with growing the news and information site geared toward Beck's radio and TV community. NYT: The appointment of Morgan to The Blaze (which Beck named after the Biblical story of Moses and the burning bush) raised some eyebrows at HuffPost because of her shift to a polar opposite political point of view. But she said in an interview, "I am a very apolitical person. I'm a business person, who is absolutely fascinated by brands."
Newsweek Hires Publisher (NYT / Media Decoder)
After months of staff turmoil including a new owner, editor, and chief executive and scores of lower-level departures, the management ranks at Newsweek are beginning to stabilize. The magazine has named a new publisher, Ray Chelstowski, a former publisher of Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly. Chelstowski will assume responsibility for both Newsweek and The Daily Beast, a sign that the two organizations are moving closer toward completing a merger of their business operations.
Rick Hirsch Named Miami Herald Managing Editor (Miami Herald)
Rick Hirsch, a veteran journalist whose first month as a cub reporter at Miami Herald got him bylines on two national stories -- the Mariel boatlift and the McDuffie race riots -- was named the newspaper's managing editor Wednesday.
