Gawker Media Commenting Accounts Compromised (Gawker)
"Our user databases appear to have been compromised," Gawker's management team wrote Sunday. "The passwords were encrypted. But simple ones may be vulnerable to a brute-force attack. You should change your Gawker password and those on any other sites on which you've used the same passwords. We're deeply embarrassed by this breach. We should not be in the position of relying on the goodwill of the hackers who identified the weakness in our systems." Mediaite: Over the weekend, Gawker Media's network of sites were under attack from a group that identified itself as "Gnosis." An individual claiming to represent Gnosis explained both the reasoning and methodology of his actions, which has led to a compromised commenter database and content-management system. Apparently, a perceived "arrogance" on the part of Gawker's management team is to blame.

Forbes Unveils Plans To Launch A European Title (Telegraph)
Forbes Media has historically chosen emerging markets in favor of expansion into Western Europe. Chairman and editor-in-chief Steve Forbes said the reason for launching a European title is because "there is a recovery coming" and Europeans had become increasingly interested in business and entrepreneurs. Forbes Europe will be based in London or Paris and will probably launch in 2011.

With each successive release, WikiLeaks has become more strategic and has been rewarded with deeper, more extensive coverage of its revelations. Julian Assange, WikiLeaks' founder and guiding spirit, apparently began to understand that scarcity, not ubiquity, drives coverage of events. Instead of just pulling back the blankets for all to see, he began to limit the disclosures to those who would add value through presentation, editing, and additional reporting.
