Young Money have had quite a year, and two prominent members of the hip-hop entourage are intent on kicking off 2011 in a big way. Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj are set to perform during "NBC's New Year's Eve With Carson Daly."
Lil Wayne announced his guest appearance earlier this week as a response to his @liltunechi Twitter account being hacked.
"I like to be a different type of guy so when people started hitting me up like, 'You gonna be performing in New York on Thursday? A free show with Nicki?' I was like, 'What?' " the rapper recalled during his appearance on satellite-radio channel Shade 45 on Tuesday. "And they said, 'Nah, it's on your Twitter.' So I check my Twitter and I'm like, 'Hold on, man,' so I had to get at the people who know how to do that to say, 'Don't do that. Ever.' I don't ever have to promote nothing. That's the beauty of Lil Wayne."
While the MC makes a point not to plug his gigs on the social-networking site, he did confirm that he'd be taping his Carson Daly performance with Nicki on Thursday.
In addition to the rappers, My Chemical Romance will perform a number, while U2's Bono and The Edge will dish with the former MTV VJ about writing the music and lyrics for the Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark."
In a statement, Daly said the show's lineup will make for an exciting evening: "With performances from Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and My Chemical Romance, this will truly be an energetic and celebratory night."
Daly said he's also looking forward to having a late-night drink with a few rock stars. "Sitting down and drinking champagne with Bono and The Edge is on my 'bucket list' — so getting to do that is awesome!" he said.
"Today" show correspondents Natalie Morales and Amy Robach will help Daly with countdown festivities as they report live from New York's Times Square.
And from one TV special to the next, MTV will also celebrate the New Year with "MTV New Year's Bash," which kicks off at 11 p.m. ET. Comedian Whitney Cummings will host and celebrity guests include "Jersey Shore" stars "Snooki" and Pauly D. Flo Rida will hit the stage with two performances during the live, hour-long broadcast, while Snooki will climb into a ball that will be lowered into Times Square.
