Lee Ann Womack has set a special goal for her upcoming 18-city concert tour with George Strait and Reba McEntire -- to rally 100,000 of her fans to raise money in support of economic and educational opportunities for women and girls in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in Africa. The campaign is a joint venture between the General Mills corporation and international humanitarian organization CARE. It is hoped that through videos, blog posts, and photos, participants can follow the impact of their donations on the girls and women in Malawi.
Those who wish to offer support are encouraged to visit Join My Village to watch a video detailing a young girl's opportunity to attend school. Users' clicks at the site will release up to $500,000 in donations from General Mills to CARE. General Mills will also match individual donations made through the site.
