Can a company market itself after being banned from every major ad network?
It is uncertain whether the controversy surrounding Noel Biderman is hindering or boosting his success. Would ashleymadison.com — the site Biderman created to connect people who want to cheat on their spouses — have nearly as many users if pundits like Fox’s Sean Hannity hadn’t spent a significant portion of his show lambasting Biderman as [...]

Whoopi Criticizes Oscar Hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway (VIDEO)
Filed under: TV ReplayOn 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated), Whoopi Goldberg criticized James Franco and Anne Hathaway for their job of hosting the 2011 Academy Awards. In particular, Goldberg said they failed to understand the dynamics of a live show and didn't take charge of the event.
Goldberg, who has herself hosted the Oscars four times, specifically pointed to Melissa Leo's F-bomb during her acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress, and said that such a gaffe requires strong hosts to keep the show moving forward. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

'Grey's Anatomy' Fan Columnist: The Long and Winding Road
So I'm starting to get just a teensy bit nervous. After an amazing first half of the season, I feel like Grey's Anatomy is beginning to meander a bit. Some episodes have been strong ("Don't Deceive Me" and last week's stellar "Golden Hour" come to mind) while others have been pretty unremarkable ("Start Me Up" and "P.Y.T."). I'm OK with the journey, but it has to be worth it in the end. Here's hoping that in retrospect last night's outing, "Not Responsible" will be seen as another link in a deliberate chain of events that are leading somewhere worthwhile. With only six more episodes this season, the pacing is becoming crucial and there's no time to waste.
A Tale of Three Babies
Meredith and Derek really want a baby. Really, really, really want one. Which means they're probably not getting one any time soon. This week's obstacle? Meredith's fertility treatments are causing her to go blind. Yep. That's a problem. She's stopping the drugs, so now what?

Toby Keith to Release Mexican Wild Shot Mezcal Liquor
Filed under: Country News
Andrew Southam
While Toby Keith's name may be synonymous with patriotism, his love for the land South of the border has been a running theme in songs such as 'Stays in Mexico' and 'Good to Go to Mexico.' Now, the Oklahoma native is bringing mezcal -- a cousin of Mexico's famous tequila -- to America.
Possessing a smoky flavor, Toby Keith's Wild Shot Mezcal -- 100 percent green agave liquor -- is traditionally drank straight instead of in mixed drinks.
"The tradition and history of mezcal is magical to me," Toby tells Nashville's Tennessean newspaper. "It dates back to 16th century: warriors celebrating the defeat of their enemies. I have always been fascinated with Mexico and the drink Mezcal. It is a part of my life."

'The King's Speech' Conquers The Oscars
Academy picks royal film for its Best Picture, Director and Actor honors.By Brian Warmoth

Director Tom Hooper gave moms watching the 83rd Academy Awards a reason to love his film, and the Oscars gave "The King's Speech" four statues by the end of the night, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay.
"The moral of this story is: Listen to your mother," Hooper told the audience at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre when he accepted his directing prize. The first-time winner and nominee credited his mother for discovering the script, which also won in its category for writer David Seidler.
Seidler's tale, based on King George VI's struggle to overcome a stuttering problem and lead Britain through World War II, entered the night with a royal recipe of previously nominated talent, historical drama and personal strife. When the ballots were finally counted, the classic formula won out, and Hooper, Seidler and star Colin Firth earned a few coveted words to put in front of their names for the rest of their careers: Oscar winner.
Check out backstage photos of the big Oscar winners.
"I have a feeling my career's just peaked," Firth quipped during his acceptance speech. The excitement, however, wasn't enough for him to get funky in front of the crowd. "I'm afraid I have to warn you that I'm experiencing stirrings somewhere in the upper abdominals," he revealed before excusing himself to go backstage and indulge his desire to dance.
"The King's Speech" may not have swept its nomination categories, with Geoffrey Rush losing out to Christian Bale for Best Supporting Actor and Helena Bonham Carter coming up short against Melissa Leo in "The Fighter" for Best Supporting Actress. Likewise, it failed to take home awards in six other categories where it was nominated. But failing to earn Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography won't be the movie's legacy.
"The Social Network" edged out the Oscar night's biggest winner for Best Film Editing and Best Music, and "The Fighter" earning the first statue of the night ensured that the Oscars would be shared this year.
Nevertheless, of the three films, "The King's Speech" will have the most enviable assortment of laurels on its DVD cover when it lands on store shelves.

Staind Frontman Aaron Lewis Is a 'Country Boy' at Heart

On paper, Aaron Lewis may seem like an unlikely candidate to pair up with country legends George Jones and Charlie Daniels, and country prodigy Chris Young. But the Massachusetts native, and frontman of the rock band Staind, proudly displays his allegiance to country music on his new single, aptly titled 'Country Boy.'
"Country was the background music to my childhood," Aaron says. "My grandfather listened to Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, Hank Williams, Jr. and all of the greats. When Staind did our first tour with Kid Rock in 1999, I rode the bus with him on a couple occasions and we bonded over this music. I haven't been able to let go of it since then."
The track, written solely by Aaron, is featured on his five-song EP 'Town Line,' set for release on March 1. The project is his first foray into country music.

Jamey Johnson's latest collection, 'The Guitar Song,' was recently certified gold by the RIAA for more than 500,000 units sold. He was presented with a plaque commemorating the accomplishment during a gathering with his label at Nashville's the Palm restaurant Friday (February 18).
The singer-songwriter thanked his band, producers, record label and everyone involved behind-the-scenes for their involvement in making the album a success. "Everybody in this room has earned their money," he said with a laugh, "and I appreciate it."
"We get positive feedback from the audience every night, so that is our thank you," Jamey continued. "But the people who work behind the scenes that maybe aren't on the road with us and don't get that immediate feedback, that immediate thank-you from people, it's real important for them to get to come out and share a night like this with everyone else."

Rhymefest Explains How Hip-Hop Career Helps Him In Politics
Kanye West protégé made it to an April runoff election for Chicago City Council.By Brian Jacks

Move over, Barack Obama and Rahm Emanuel, there's a new face in Chicago politics. And it's probably not who you'd expect.
Rapper Che "Rhymefest" Smith, the Kanye West protégé whose collaboration on "Jesus Walks" earned the pair a Grammy in 2004, is knee-deep in a hotly contested race for the Chicago City Council. The artist received 20 percent of Tuesday's vote against incumbent Willie Cochran, forcing a runoff election for the alderman seat representing the city's 20th Ward.
A lifelong Chicago resident who grew up with West on the city's troubled South Side, 'Fest seems an unlikely political candidate, but the artist contends his musical career outside the political system makes him an ideal choice to be a councilman.
"We could talk on a hip-hop level and we can talk on a community level," Smith told MTV News. "On a hip-hop level, we rappers are always talking about 'hood credibility; we're more 'hood than the next artist is, but what are we really doing to make our community safer, to make people be able to have employment in our communities? We're living under tyrannical conditions. So as an artist, what can I do more than a song-and-dance for the community that has bought my records?"
The artist pointed to such factors as high unemployment and prison recidivism as key issues in his campaign, stating that his experience in the music industry has given him the skills necessary not only to help legislate, but to directly improve the lives of the citizens in his community.
"I think the great thing about the position I'm running for in city council is, unlike a president or a senator, we're on the ground," he said. "We're in the community. We get to [be] hands-on with the people every day. And I think that's where it starts. ... So what would I do as an advocate and legislator for the community? I'd begin with entrepreneur programs. As a brand -- Rhymefest -- and being in the industry, I can teach people how to market and promote and start their own businesses."
Like politicians who bring in celebrity donors to get out the vote, Smith has been able to rely on his own stable of high-profile names to help with his campaign. And he's issuing a call for other hip-hop notables to join his cause.
"[Kanye] helped with his generous donation," Smith said. "He helped to fund my whole field operation on Election Day. Lupe Fiasco helped to pay for hundreds of turkeys where we went door-to-door for Thanksgiving Day. Brother Ali stepped up. [But] Talib Kweli, Common: I need you. I'm asking for the so-called conscious, positive rappers to join me, to help us resurrect all our communities, starting with the 20th Ward in Chicago. I put down the mic to help save a community, and I need the positive rappers to come out too."
Rhymefest's burgeoning political career will face its strongest test when the runoff election is held April 5. But whatever happens, the artist will continue to push for change within his community. "One of the problems that's plaguing America is the individualism attitude," he said. "We really have to step up and be a village again."

'Glee' Original Songs Slated For March Episode Hit The Net
Ryan Seacrest previewed soon-to-be 'Gleek anthem' 'Loser Like Me' and 'Get It Right' on his radio show.By Aly Semigran

During the February 15 episode of "Glee" (titled "Silly Love Songs"), Lea Michele's character, Rachel, not-so-subtly foreshadowed the arrival of original songs on the show. But while new tunes "Loser Like Me" and "Get It Right" won't appear on the hit series until March 15, Gleeks got a first listen on Friday morning (February 25).
The two new original "Glee" tracks debuted on "On Air With Ryan Seacrest." Ryan also tweeted out the information, posting on his page, "Attn Gleeks! Here's the world premiere of #Glee's first ever original songs 'Loser Like Me' & 'Get It Right.' "
"Loser" features all of the New Directions members, led by Michele and Cory Monteith. The peppy pop ditty features lyrics keeping in tune with the themes of the show. After the opening guitar riffs, Michele croons, "Yeah, you may think that I'm a zero/ But hey, everyone you wanna be/ Probably started off like me/ You may say that I'm a freak show/ But hey, give it just a little time/ I bet you're gonna change your mind."
Monteith later comes in with similar "we'll show you" lyrics: "Pushed me up against the locker/ But hey, all I do is shake it off/ I'll get you back when I'm your boss." The rest of their castmates join them for the chorus, singing, "You wanna be/ You wanna be/ A loser like me."
Earlier this week, "Glee" music producer Adam Anders — the pair penned the numbers along with pop music powerhouse Max Martin — described "Loser" to Entertainment Weekly as a "Gleek anthem. It's a very uptempo, kind-of-summery hit." The Michele solo "Get It Right" was inspired by "Lea's story line," Anders told EW.
In its opening moments, the Michele ballad sounds reminiscent of the Britney Spears hit "Everytime" thanks to its fluttering piano and breathy vocals, but comes into its own as it builds. The Golden Globe-nominated star cries in the chorus, "What can you do/ When your good isn't good enough/ And all that you touch tumbles down/ 'Cause my best intentions keep making a mess of things/ I just want to fix it somehow/ But how many times will it take for me to get it right?"
Both "Loser Like Me" and "Get It Right" will appear on the album "Glee: The Music, Volume 5," which will also feature season-two covers like Michele's take on Katy Perry's "Firework" and guest star Gwyneth Paltrow's rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide." The fifth installment is due on March 8.

Last night on American Idol we got our first extended look at Top
24 finalist Paul McDonald who wowed the judges with his unique voice

The 26-year-old Alabama native made it in by doing something the show
doesn't let its contestants do: singing an original song. While everyone
might be in awe of how original he is, I was left with one thought:
Isn't that the guy from Once?

Deadline Banned From Covering Oscars!
BREAKING... This morning, the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences pulled Deadline Film Editor/NY Editor Mike Fleming's backstage press credential to cover the 83rd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday. The Academy's PR specifically cited that the reason was Deadline's coverage. Since Friday, Deadline has been reporting "spoilers" about Sunday night's show after being leaked a detailed rundown of the telecast schedule.(Billy Crystal Is Making Oscars Appearance: Exclusive Spoilers From Detailed Schedule)
So, to sum up, Deadline was banned from covering the Oscars precisely for covering the Oscars. Andour spoilers were picked up by the world press. Yet there'sa long history of entertainment journalistsbesides us publishing various scoops about the show during the week leading up to the Academy Awards broadcast. But, until now, no media outlet has ever published so many scoops as Deadline did yesterday. So the fact that we did our reporting jobtoo well put the Academy on tilt.
So around 10 AM, AMPASDirector Of Communications Leslie Unger phoned Deadline'sFleming to give him the news even though he flew in from New York to Los Angeles specially to cover the Academy Awards. "We're not going to be able to issue you that credential," she told him, "because of Deadline's coverage of the Oscars." I then confirmed the ban with Unger, who told me she had been "instructed" to revoke Fleming's backstage press credential by the Academy's executive administrator Ric Robertson with ... Read More »

'Drive Angry' Stars Discuss Film's Most Outrageous Moments
'I'm still kind of amazed that they let me drink beer out of somebody's skull,' Nicolas Cage marvels to MTV News.By Kara Warner

If the trailers haven't already sold the fact that "Drive Angry" is outrageous, in every sense of the word, allow the cast of the film -- Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard, Billy Burke and William Fichtner -- to expand on the subject, particularly the scenes they thought would be left on the cutting-room floor.
"I'm still kind of amazed that they let me drink beer out of somebody's skull," Cage admitted to MTV News recently of his character's most over-the-top antics. "That that's still in the movie, and it's a credit to [director] Patrick Lussier that he had the guts to go in the most far-out places."
"Only in our movie, in the world of 'Drive Angry,' " Heard said.
"I wanted it to look good, like, 'My cup runneth over,' " Cage explained of the big moment. "I wanted the beer to come sploshing out of the eye sockets."
Burke, who plays a very disturbed and psychotic cult leader hell-bent on infant sacrifice in the film, said he figured that one of the film's climactic scenes would receive a less intensely violent edit.
"I thought that we would probably change sacrificing a baby to maybe a lamb or something like that," Burke said. "I didn't think that we'd actually go forward with wanting to kill a baby, but we did, and that's the kind of movie this is. So if you can't take that, for the fun and spirit in which it's intended, then you shouldn't go see this movie," he advised.
For scene-stealer Fichtner, who plays the mysterious character the Accountant, he was most surprised that a very racy/violent love scene made the cut.
"There was one scene in the movie, we all know which one I'm talking about [a 'creative' sex scene in which Cage engages in a gunfight with a naked woman still on top of him] where I thought, 'Wow, that's interesting,' " he said. "That's a challenge."
In addition to the outrageousness of wrapping your head around what happens in that scene, Fichtner said he has great respect for the actors and stunt coordinators who made it happen.
"Patrick [Lussier] did an amazing job and so did Charlotte [Ross] and Nic," he said. "It's much more than just a sex scene."

Adele's 21 Set To Debut At #1
Projected big sales come after a slew of the singer's tour dates had to be moved to larger venues.By Alex Chapman

Fame has never been Adele's top priority, but these days, there's no stopping the singer's rapid rise in popularity.
Adele's star is only growing brighter on both sides of the pond. According to the singer's website, a slew of her U.S. tour dates had to be moved to bigger venues to meet popular demand (she even added extra gigs in New York). In addition, according to Reuters, her latest album, 21, is projected to move as many as 300,000 copies by Sunday, guaranteeing a #1 debut in America.
The 22-year-old has mentioned in the past that she has no desire to share the celebrity of her contemporaries. "I was just thinking, imagine being someone like Cheryl Cole or Katy Perry or Gaga, where you've got to be conniving to have a normal day," Adele told Britain's The Sun earlier this month. "That scares the life out of me. I don't think I'd be able to carry on doing music if it got to that point. I don't think it ever will -- I don't think I'm the kind of artist where that will happen."
The singer/songwriter has also mentioned that she prefers a smaller scene to an outsize stadium. "I can't do arenas because I'm not [Lady Gaga]," Adele was recently quoted as saying.
But don't let the singer's seemingly reserved mentality fool you: Adele wants her music to cross over to the States, even if she doesn't desire the forceful spotlight that follows. "It's a big deal in England," Adele told MTV News of success in America. "I didn't think I'd ever release a record here."

'The Vampire Diaries' Recap: The Luka Martin Roast
After Elijah's death, I thought it might be a while before The Vampire Diaries
killed another major character. How wrong I was, because in this
episode, two major characters are killed, a major secret is revealed and
a shocking return is sure to cause some trouble.
With Katherine back, she's up to her old tricks, but she also wants to
team up with the Salvatores to kill Klaus, which they understandably
have a hard time believing.

Charlie Sheen Commits Career Suicide (FishbowlLA)
Maybe it was better when Charlie Sheen was partying with porn stars and a "briefcase full of cocaine." TMZ: Sheen launched a nuclear attack on live radio, slamming Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre, calling him a turd, and going on to call Thomas Jefferson a "pussy." Sheen unloaded while calling in to The Alex Jones Show and claimed he is 100 percent clean, saying, "Here's your first pee test, next one goes in your mouth. No, you won't get high." New York / Vulture: "I'm sorry, man, but I've got magic. I've got poetry in my fingertips. Most of the time -- and this includes naps -- I'm an F-18, bro. And I will destroy you in the air. I will deploy my ordinance to the ground." TheWrap.com / The Box: Conversations with Warner Bros. Television insiders suggested that they have no intention of paying Sheen the remaining salary for his contract as the lead of Two and a Half Men. Deadline.com: As Sheen's erratic behavior escalated, the sitcom's network and studio did the only thing they could in the situation: pull the plug. But they only did it for this season.) Two and a Half Men was scheduled to resume production Monday for four more episodes.) So the door is left open for a possible ninth season. Ad Age / MediaWorks: CBS not only removed the most expensive program for advertisers from its schedule -- a 30-second spot during Two and a Half Men costs an average of $206,722, according to Ad Age's annual survey of primetime ad prices -- but also took out a show that has been the linchpin of its Monday-night lineup. THR: Sheen's attack on Lorre is only the latest in a long line of troubles for the actor. Here are eight of his biggest screw-ups (in chronological order). Mediaite: While doing little to restore faith in his sanity, Sheen touched one of the most inflamed nerves in post-Tea Party America by going after Jefferson, and, by visiting a program like Alex Jones to begin with, he may be wanting a path to punditry.
Motion Picture Academy And ABC Renew Oscars Pact (LA Times / Company Town)
One of the longest streaks in television history will continue. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC said Thursday that they extended their licensing agreement six years, through 2020. The agreement keeps the Academy Awards telecast a fixture on ABC, and the announcement comes just days before this weekend's 83rd annual Oscar gala on the network. TheWrap.com / The Odds: The new Oscar hosts have gotten advice from Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, and Hugh Jackman, and now they can add some unsolicited (and, I suspect, unwanted) tips from Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais. GigaOM: Creating a second-screen experience to accompany a live broadcast has become a requisite part of putting on any live event, whether it be the Emmys, the Grammys, or even the Super Bowl. So this year, ABC and ATAS are truly stepping up, providing unprecedented access to behind-the-scenes material to be enjoyed online while also watching the telecast. But what's also unprecedented? The fact that there's a price tag. CNET: Since the announcement of the Academy Award nominations last month, a service called Tweetbeat has been collecting each and every Oscar-related Tweet, and it released its conclusions Thursday. With well more than 25,000 votes, if you can call them that, The King's Speech emerged as the clear Best Picture winner, with the support of 31.4 percent. Entrepreneur: Every time winemaker Kathy Joseph watches Oscar-nominated film The Kids Are All Right, she gets a jolt of excitement. That's because less than five minutes into the film, actress Annette Bening picks up an empty bottle of wine and asks her wife, played by Julianne Moore, "Do we have any more of the Fiddlehead?"
Fox News Chief, Roger Ailes, Urged Employee To Lie, Records Show (NYT)
It was an incendiary allegation -- and a mystery of great intrigue in the media world: After publishing powerhouse Judith Regan was fired by HarperCollins in 2006, she claimed that a senior executive at its parent company, News Corp., had encouraged her to lie two years earlier to federal investigators who were vetting Bernard B. Kerik for the job of homeland security secretary.

Emmys Merge Miniseries and TV Movie Categories
Filed under: Emmys, TV NewsIn a very logical move, The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will merge two very similar categories for this year's Emmy Awards ceremony. The Outstanding Miniseries and Outstanding Made for Television Movie categories will now become one.
According to a press release from the Academy, the new category will have six nominees, up from five.
So why the change? According to Emmy rules, if any category does not have enough entries to have five nominees in two successive years, the Board of Governors will review the case. Instead of the deleting the category or leaving it alone, the Board voted to consolidate with another category. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

For the moment of greatest suspense at the Academy Awards, we already know what names will be called. It's the Oscar death montage: Fate has already tapped those winners. But which recently departed star will get the most applause? And which will have the position of honor -- at the end?Tony Curtis?Jill Clayburgh?Dennis Hopper?Since it formally began in 1993, the "In Memoriam" segment has become one of the most popular parts of the annual awards broadcast -- and probably the most controversial. This year's segment will be longer than ever before, says the Academy's executive director, Bruce Davis, clocking in at nearly five minutes. Ratings Rat Race: 'Criminal Minds' Spinoff, 'Mr. Sunshine' Down; 'SVU,' 'Off The Map' Up
In the battle of the crime drama spinoffs at 10 PM, it was a draw between veteran Law & Order: SVU and newcomer Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, which finished tied for first place in the 18-49 demo with a 2.5/7. (Suspect Behavior was tops in viewers, 9.9 million vs. 8 million) But it was good news for SVU, up 14% from last week, and bad news for Suspect Behavior, down 24% from its premiere last week. And that despite its lead-in, the mothership Criminal Minds series (3.4/9, 13.4 million), being up 6% in the demo. Also slightly up, by a tenth, was CBS' veteran reality series Survivor (3.3/9, 11.2 million), which posted its lowest-rated premiere/telecast last week facing Fox's American Idol for the first time.
An already overcrowded reality field at 8 PM became even more crowded last night with the season premiere of CW's America's Next Top Model (2.3 million, 1.3/4 in 18-34), which faced Idol, Survivor and NBC's Minute to Win It. Model did OK under the circumstances, down 7% in 18-34 from its fall premiere and 21% in total viewers. And in 18-49 (1.1/3), it actually tied NBC's Minute to Win It (1.2/3 from 8-10 PM, up 20% from last week.) But new CW reality series Shedding for the Wedding (1.2 million, 0.5/1) was off to a rough start. It still improved on the DOA debut performance ... Read More »

Lady Gaga Gets Ethereal for Viva Glam MAC Video
'I wanted the campaign to feel a bit more timeless,' company's creative director explains.By Jocelyn Vena
Lady Gaga for MAC Viva Glam
Photo: Nick Knight
Lady Gaga's new short film for her work with MAC's Viva Glam line is an ethereal, ghostly affair that blends well with the pop star's current color scheme. The Nick Knight-directed clip features Gaga in shades of blush, nude and champagne almost floating alongside romantic images of martinis, flowers and perfume bottles. Airy house music plays as Gaga's flowing dress is blown about and she seduces the camera in various states of undress.
For photos of Gaga's Viva Gam line, click here.
This year's Viva Glam shades, which raise money for the MAC AIDS Fund, will be available for purchase next month. James Gager, SVP, Creative Director of MAC said that hooking up with Gaga for a second year (she teamed up with Cyndi Lauper last year) seemed like the most natural fit.
"She's an amazing fit for us in so many ways. I think the most important quality is that she is real and she speaks her mind. When MAC originally started, it was truly a place for all the misfits of the world, where they could feel comfortable and know that they wouldn't be criticized. We've always been all about welcoming everyone into our universe. Gaga is bringing that same spirit to the world. She spreads this message of 'Don't be afraid to be who you are, don't let people put you down,' and radiates this sense of empowerment. Look at how courageously she's been speaking out lately," he said. "She's so passionate, focused and articulate, and I think we are, too. Especially with Viva Glam, we really put ourselves out there and every cent goes to the cause."
As for the sexy video, Gager explained that it was a joint effort, like so many of her projects. "Working with Gaga is very much a partnership: It's a team effort and collaboration," he said. "The photographer Nick Knight, Gaga's stylist Nicola Formichetti and I wanted the campaign to feel a bit more timeless, but still very much her. Last year was all about a fun, feminine kind of sensibility, so I think if you compare that with what we've created this year, it's refreshing to see her in a way you wouldn't expect. We thought: 'Let's go with the idea of nude and the stripping away of what she's famous for and make her a little more elusive and evasive.' The tone is undeniably glamorous as well."
Not only were the visuals for the campaign inspired by Gaga's aesthetic, but it seems this year's shades were also modified to fit Gaga's current look. "Jennifer Balbier [the company's SVP of product development] and I felt that after last year's shades — Gaga's fun pink and Cyndi's coral red — it was time to move in a new direction," he explained. "I think Gaga herself has moved into nude tones, and we didn't want to shoot something that was out of place. So she was actually part of the inspiration."
Last week, when Gaga appeared on "Good Morning America" to talk about Viva Glam, she said her outfit was condom-inspired, in honor of the lipstick's AIDS-awareness mission.
"I want to get people started at home at a younger age with their children talking about HIV, talking about AIDS, talking about safe sex," Gaga explained.

Lillian McEwen, Clarence Thomas's ex-girlfriend, pens sexually charged memoir
Lillian McEwen, 2010. (Bill O'Leary/TWP)/U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, 2008 (Dennis Brack/Bloomberg News) Four months after Lillian McEwen broke a two-decade silence about her longtime relationship with Clarence Thomas, the retired administrative law judge has written a book. And it is dirty. David Wu apologized Tuesday for some questionable behavior just prior to his re-election last fall. "Last October was not a good month, it was very stressful," he told "Good Morning America." "I did some things, I said some things which I sincerely regret now. And as a result of those things, I saw fit to consult professional help." Wu, a seven-term congressman, said he got the counseling he needed and "I'm in a good place now." Last week, Oregon media reports said Wu's staffers staged an intervention about his mental health and hid him from public view during the last three days of his campaign. They were alarmed by a number of erratic behaviors including a rambling speech, gaining access to a restricted airport area to

'Glee' is going country once again! Just a week after the hit TV show's characters sang a rousing rendition of Lady Antebellum's 'Need You Now,' they're set to tackle another country song about being a little drunk, Jerrod Niemann's 'How Can I Be So Thirsty.' In fact, the title of tonight's (Februay 22) episode is 'Blame It on the Alcohol.'
"How can I be so thirsty this morning / After all I drank last night?" Jerrod sings in the chorus of the humorous song, found on his chart-topping debut CD, 'Judge Jerrod and the Hung Jury.'
'Glee' airs tonight (February 22) at 8:00 PM ET on FOX. The theme of tonight's episode is the dangers of underage drinking, with the cast also performing Ke$ha's 'Tik Tok,' Human League's 'Don't You Want Me,' Rudy Toombs' 'One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer' (most famously covered by George Thorogood) and, of course, Jamie Foxx's 'Blame It.'

'Mad Love' and Three Other Shows Where the Acting Overcomes the Writing
Filed under: Reality-Free, FeaturesWhile I was watching the first two episodes of CBS's new Monday comedy 'Mad Love,' an odd sensation came over me. And no, it wasn't a tingly feeling brought on by imagining Sarah Chalke and Judy Greer having nightly slumber parties, though the thought did cross my mind.
No, the sensation that hit me was one of cognitive dissonance. I was enjoying the show, even though I knew that the premise of the show was a bit of a stretch, the plots of the episodes had a lot of eye-rolling coincidences, and the dialogue coming out of the leads' mouths was at most moderately funny.
Then I realized where this confusion was coming from: The show's four leads were doing a great acting job. Three of them -- Chalke, Greer and Tyler Labine -- are on my short list of favorite TV actors in the past decade, and they all delivered their lines with deft comedic timing and a confidence that kept them from overcompensating for the mediocre material they'd been given. The fourth lead, Jason Biggs doing his most deft Josh Radnor impression, was OK, but as my colleague Mo Ryan mentioned in her review, he was no match for the other three pros on the show. Now that the invitations to the April 29 wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton are out, the rumor mill is on hyperdrive and will be for the next two months. The only exclusion of note: Sarah Ferguson, who blew her last chance at a seat when

Adele Says Writing 21 'Broke My Heart'
British singer's second album hit U.S. stores Tuesday (February 22).By James Montgomery

Adele's jaw-dropping sophomore album, 21, officially hit stores in the States on Tuesday (February 22), having already topped the charts in her native U.K. (and most of Europe too). And while it might seem odd for her to be so excited about another release -- especially since 21 has been out for more than a month worldwide -- the 22-year-old songstress isn't hiding the fact that she's anxiously awaiting her first-week numbers here in the U.S. To hear her tell it, she never thought she'd get the opportunity to sell albums here at all.
"Oh, it's magical being here. I didn't think I'd ever release a record here," she laughed. "It's a big deal in England. There's a massive thing, like, 'Did you crack America?!?' The biggest acts in England, no one has any idea who they are here. ... I'm not a radio artist here, I'm not on pop stations really, I have these songs that go everywhere. So it really is people are proper behind me here, because I sell records; I don't sell singles. And that doesn't happen anywhere."
And her (presumed) Stateside triumph would be even sweeter considering, during the promotional run for her last album, the Grammy-winning 19, she steeped herself in all things American. And a lot of those influences -- country, R&B, bluegrass, jazz, plus a few you might not suspect -- are all readily apparent on 21.
"I was a proper sponge when I did my big bulk of American touring. I was on a tour bus, so I was literally driving across America; I wasn't getting on planes or anything like that. I'd be in Baltimore and hear this amazing, crazy hip-hop, and then be in Atlanta, and then in Texas, Nashville and end up in California. [And] I loved it," she said. "And that rubbed off on this record. I don't think I've made an Americana-sounding record, but certainly the delivery of a lot of the blues and country and rockabilly artists, and hip-hop. Like, I'm totally fascinated with the way Kanye and Nas and Mos Def manipulate a word to make it rhyme and to make it really fascinating when it's actually pretty mundane. Analyzing normal things, but making them electric, that's definitely rubbed off on my delivery and my writing, the way I connect with my songs and channel them."
And while she's channeled her love of American music into her new album (and a mysterious hip-hop collaboration that she can't mention "just in case it doesn't happen"), what resonates most with fans on both sides of the Atlantic is the unflinching honesty she displays throughout. Songs like "Rolling in the Deep," "Set Fire to the Rain" and the shattering "Someone Like You" are very much about the death of her first, as she put it, "real relationship," and that heartbreak not only provides the backbone to the album, but has connected with her fans in a way even she couldn't have predicted.
"It broke my heart when I wrote this record, so the fact that people are taking it to their hearts is like the best way to recover. 'Cause I'm still not fully recovered. It's going to take me 10 years to recover, I think, from the way I feel about my last relationship," she said. "It was the biggest deal in my entire life to date. ... He made me totally hungry. ... He was older, he was successful in his own right, whereas my boyfriends before were my age and not really doing much. And he got me interested in film and literature and food and wine and traveling and politics and history, and those were things I was never, ever interested in. I was interested in going clubbing and getting drunk."
And so if (or, more likely, when) 21 tops the Billboard albums chart, Adele will celebrate in her own way. She's gone through the heartbreak, she's grown up, and she carries with her a truly tremendous new album. Though someone will probably have to tell her when her album is #1. Even though she's anxiously waiting for those first-week numbers, she's actually stopped paying attention.
"I disconnected my Internet," she laughed. "I have no idea what's going on!"

5 Reasons to Watch 'The Amazing Race 18: Unfinished Business'
The Amazing Race is back on CBS Sunday, Feb 20 and it's going to be good. Make that great. The theme of this season is "Unfinished Business," as it welcomes back returning teams who made a critical error in the Race, resulting in their elimination. Whether they were lost for 9 hours, took a penalty out of frustration, or made a poorly-timed trip to the bathroom, these teams are looking for redemption.Since we're already invested in all the teams (the double-edged sword of an All-Stars season), host Phil Keoghan has seen to it personally (not really, but I like to imagine he plans it all out himself) that this season of The Amazing Race will be harder than ever. Aside from the thrill of rooting for your favorite team all over again, here are 5 reasons to watch the premiere of The Amazing Race 18: Unfinished Business.

"I was in a place where all the things I thought would make me truly happy, I found could make me just as miserable," Randy Houser tells The Boot of his inspiration for the brand-new song, 'In God's Time.'
Co-written by Randy, Shane Minor and David Lee Murphy, the powerful tune is about the importance of being patient and accepting God's will. "This song had been on my heart for about three weeks," Randy says. "We wrote another song, and everyone was packing up to leave and I sat down and played the first chord and sang 'In God's Time.' I said, 'Shane, I'm supposed to write this song. Do y'all want to stay?' Both of them said [yes].
"It was exactly what I needed to say at the time," continues the ACM Top New Solo Vocalist nominee. "It was exactly what I'd been feeling, but it hadn't manifested itself yet. It was exactly what my heart needed to hear. A lot of times you have to verbally say things to soak 'em up."

Britney Spears' Manager Teases Her Next Single
'It is a monster,' Larry Rudolph tells MTV News about 'Hold It Against Me' follow-up.By Jocelyn Vena

With a little more than a month to go before the March 29 release of Britney Spears' Femme Fatale, we spoke to her longtime manager, Larry Rudolph, on the same night her eagerly anticipated "Hold It Against Me" video premiered.
Rudolph revealed to MTV News during our "HIAM" live stream on Thursday night that fans will likely hear another new song before the album — executive-produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke — comes out.
"We have a second song that I think we're gonna end up putting out before the album drops," he teased. "I can't say with 100 percent certainty, but I think we probably will. But we're talking about it now and it is a monster. It really is."
Rudolph has been by Brit's side since the beginning of her career, and he predicted that if fans love "HIAM," then they're in for a real treat with the next song.
"I don't think I've been this excited about releasing a Britney single in many, many years," he added. "It's that good. That's all I'm gonna say about it at the moment. I haven't heard a final mix of it, but I should get it in the next day or two. So far, what I've heard is just extraordinary. It really is amazing. Her fans will be very happy with it. I'm trying hard to get it out before the album comes out."
Spears teased some upcoming promotional plans for the album last week during a Twitter Q&A. "I'm doing a lot of promo," she said. "There will be some major announcements in the next few days." She added, "I'm thinking about the tour right now and I would [love] to visit a lot of places I didn't get to go to on my last tour."

• #feedbackfriday Did Michael Vick make a mistake by canceling his Oprah appearance? http://mbist.ro/fwyEuY — @mediabistro • No! It was a bad idea in the first place. His on-field play was getting him good pub, not rehashing the old crap w/ Oprah! — @BryanStoecker • Nope, he's said all that he needs to on numerous occasions, incl his show. 'Big Love' Fan Columnist: Troubled Waters, Few Bridges
What does it profit a man if he gains a whole church but loses his own soul mate? On Big Love, even having a couple of spare wives might not prevent a broken heart.
Triumph and tragedy commingle as Bill finally achieves the goal of starting his own church, the New Assembly of Mormon Pioneers, while facing the loss of his true love, Barb. She wants to be an equal member of the church--a priesthood holder. But this is the one thing he can't give her. Maybe Nicki was right: Bill always puts faith before family.

Kenny Chesney Is Raring to Renew His 'Love Affair' With Fans

Kenny Chesney is ready to rock the stage on his Goin' Coastal tour, which kicks off next month. He seems to be nearly chomping at the bit to get back out there and connect with his loyal fans who have been waiting patiently for more than a year to see their favorite star in concert.
The four-time CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year took 2010 off from touring to recharge his creative batteries, because he had constantly been on the road since he launched his career in 1994. Since 2004, he has played for more than one million fans every year, which can certainly take a toll on your mental and physical well-being, especially if you're as involved in his career as he has been over the past two decades. In 2009, the Tennessee native revealed he would be taking a breather from the road, and the last time he stepped off the stage from one of his major tours was September 19, 2009 in Indianapolis.

'Hangover Part II' Trailer Drops Next Week, Todd Phillips Says
'It's truly a teaser, so it might end up frustrating more than solving questions,' director tells MTV News.By Eric Ditzian

After the record-breaking success of "The Hangover" and the endless speculation about where the sequel would take place, after the casting gossip and the Mel Gibson controversy, after the first photos and the behind-the-scenes set visit, we're about to get our first peek at actual footage from "The Hangover Part II."
"We have a teaser trailer that I just finished color for yesterday night, so that'll come out next week," Todd Phillips told MTV News on Friday (February 18) while promoting the DVD release of "Due Date." "And I think it comes out in theaters on 'Hall Pass,' which should be next Friday."
It can't come soon enough. The film hits theaters May 26, and up until now, official glimpses at the production have been few and far between. The only reason for the dearth of Warner Bros.-sanctioned material, though, is that Phillips and friends didn't wrap production on the flick that long ago.
"We've had, like, one photo out, and that's just because we finished shooting on New Year's Day, and the movie comes out on Memorial Day," the writer/director said. "It's really just a crazy-tight schedule."
While Phillips wouldn't dish details about what we'll actually see in the teaser, he did emphasize that fans should temper their expectations: The footage will hardly offer a comprehensive dive into what the film is all about. "It's truly a teaser, so it might end up frustrating more than solving questions," he told us. "I love it. It's a true tease, if that makes sense. It's just one of those things that's gonna make you go, 'OK, let's see what more they have.' It's to pique interest and to remind people what's coming down the pike."

Lady Gaga Has Her 'Way' With Atlantic City
Gaga's Monster Ball concert in New Jersey on Saturday night included her new #1 single, 'Born This Way,' and all her other big hits.By Vaughn Schoonmaker

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey — "I've missed you all so much!" Lady Gaga gushed to her little monsters who filled the sold-out Boardwalk Hall arena on Saturday night.
Check out photos from Lady Gaga's Atlantic City Show.
As much as she was missed during her superhumanly brief tour hiatus, the question on everyone's mind at the Monster Ball was whether or not Gaga would perform "Born This Way."
Halfway through her encore performance of "Bad Romance," Mother Monster took a beat to seductively mutter, "You better not leave when this song is done. There may be a surprise."
And sure enough, after three minutes of deafening monster screams in the darkness, Miss Gaga stormed the stage once more, surrounded by her dancers, all in the same flesh-colored latex we saw at the Grammys. She belted out her new #1 hit at the top of her lungs and danced with every bit of energy that a normal human would not have after an almost-two-hour gargantuan show.
The second-place award for the wild night's biggest moment went to the pop star's announcement that she will be back next year with the "Born This Way Ball," which — judging from the roar in the venue — is already guaranteed to be sold out a year before tickets even go on sale.
For this concert, Gaga stuck true to her Monster Ball format rather than transition to the material that will appear on her upcoming album, Born This Way. Besides the title track, the only other new song she performed was "You and I," which she has already played at several shows during her most recent round of touring.
The set list featured all of her biggest hits, including "Poker Face," "Paparazzi," "Telephone" and "Just Dance." The more intimate piano portion of the show, meanwhile, was noticeably shortened since the singer has dropped her "Fame Monster" rock tune "Speechless."
Looking as fit as ever, Gaga showed off her toned tummy for most of the second half of the performance, thrusting her body to every beat that could possibly be danced to. Singing loud and strong, Gaga took a moment during "Teeth," to remind her fans once again that she never does and never will lip synch.
Scissor Sisters opened the concert with six sultry and dance-heavy numbers, including their hit, "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'."
The next stop on the Monster Ball tour is Madison Square Garden in New York City on both Monday and Tuesday, during which Lady Gaga's first HBO concert special will be taped.

Casting 'Wonder Woman': The Supporting Cast
Filed under: Features, TV NewsSigh. Now that David E. Kelley's 'Wonder Woman' pilot has landed Adrianne Palicki in the lead role, we've come to accept that this thing is actually happening.
The new 'Wonder Woman' series follows the adventures of the Amazon princess as she runs a corporation, fights crime in Los Angeles and pines for her ex-lover, Steve Trevor. Her support system includes Myndi and Etta, with whom she gossips and watches Katy Perry music videos. Oh, and Wonder Woman also has three secret identities.
Both Mo Ryan and I have voiced concerns about the pilot, but like it or not, it's getting made. Let's make NBC's job a little easier and cast Wonder Woman / Diana Prince / Diana Themyscira's friends and main love, Steve Trevor. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Choddies and Four Other Ad Clichs That Need to Stop Now
Filed under: Reality-Free, FeaturesYou may not know what a Choddy is by name, but you've seen them everywhere on your TV screen.
They're not hard to spot: they're commercials -- mostly PSAs -- that have the same format: They depict a combination of people, shot from the waist up against a bland background, looking straight into the camera while giving a piece of the ad's copy. The ad is edited to make it sound like one complete statement.
Choddies are so pervasive that a website was created to help stop the trend. Stop the Choddy, which looks like it was set up by a consortium of creative types at small advertising firms and production companies, documents what the elements of a Choddy are -- apparently, one of them is the presence of Whoopi Goldberg -- and asks users to send in examples of Choddies found in the wild. Oh, and they also sell t-shirts and trucker caps. What's an internet meme without merchandising attached? Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
