Hot Trailer: MGM/Sony's 'Zookeeper'

What a road this movie has traveled. This is Sony'sbig Summer 2011 comedy, but pre-bankruptcyMGM did all the heavy lifting. It paid$2 million for the Jay Scherick/David Ronn script and hired KevinJames at a bargain price before he made Paul Blart: Mall Cop, and then steered the pic through production. It should have been MGM's swing for the fences, but the MGM financial crisis caused it to be turned over for distribution by its SPE partners. Release date is July 8th:

Friday Ratings for May 20: 'Supernatural' Dips in Finale

Last night on the CW, Supernatural ended its sixth season with a disappointing dip in ratings. But don't worry, because Sam and Dean will return next season for more paranormal shenanigans.

Supernatural was down 20%, with 2.21 million viewers for its two-hour season finale. In typical Supernatural fashion, the season ended on a sour note, leaving the characters in a rough situation.

Names & Faces: Donald Trump?s for-profit school under investigation; Pete Doherty is back in jail; Marion Cotillard has a baby boy

? The New York State attorney general?s office is investigating whether Donald Trump?s business school, formerly known as Trump University, is engaging in illegal business practices, the New York Times reports. Trump-U is not the only so-called school coming under the microscope ? the effort is part of a broader inquiry into for-profit education, which is also examining Career Education Corporation, Corinthian Colleges, Lincoln Educational Services, and Bridgepoint Education.
But the school ? which is known to charge up to $35,000 a course ? has its share of unsatisfied alums. Last year four former students sued the company in a federal court in California, seeking class-action status. New York and Maryland have also forced Trump-U to drop the word ?university? from its title (as of 2010, the school has been renamed Trump Entrepreneur Initiative) . In 2010, the Better Business Bureau gave it a D-minus, its second lowest score, after getting 23 complaints. That has to hurt.

Justin Timberlake Channels Mozart, Mocks Himself in Unaired 'SNL' Skit

Filed under: Reality-Free, TV NewsIf you'd like to watch Justin Timberlake make fun of himself with an on-and-off fake German accent, you should probably watch this unaired skit from this weekend's 'Saturday Night Live' season ender.

Things touched upon in the five-minute clip: musicians-turned-actors, similarities between 'No Strings Attached' and 'Friends With Benefits,' the 'Mickey Mouse Club' and those black-framed "take me seriously" glasses.

The man who rented Rahm Emanuel?s Chicago house is finally leaving when the lease is up at the end of June, reports the Chicago Tribune. Rob Halpin took possession in 2009 and refused to move out when Emanuel returned to the Windy City last fall to run for mayor ? which played into his $800,000 battle to prove residency. The new mayor has spent the past several months in a rented condo.

Taylor Swift's 'The Story Of Us' Video To Debut Tuesday On MTV

On-air debut at 7:53 p.m. ET will be followed by live 'MTV First' interview with Swift on MTV.com!By Jocelyn Vena

Taylor Swift has always had fun in her music videos. Whether she's a geeky schoolgirl-turned-glamour queen in her VMA-winning video for "You Belong With Me" or a forlorn lover in a snow-covered farmhouse in her "Back to December" clip, Swift has always tried to show off different sides of herself.
Now she's teaming up with MTV News for "MTV First: Taylor Swift," where she'll not only have an exclusive sit-down with our very own Sway, but also premiere the video for her Speak Now single "The Story of Us."

It all kicks off on Tuesday, May 24, at 7:53 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com. Fans can tune in to see Swift introduce the video's official premiere and speak with Sway live on-air. Sway and Taylor will then continue their chat for a 30-minute live stream on MTV.com. The singer will answer a few questions from fans too. Beginning on Friday (May 20), you can submit your pressing queries on MTV.com or via Twitter using @MTVNews (hashtag #AskTaylor).
This Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET, the music video will debut online on MTV.com, VH1.com and MTV's International Sites in 150+ territories, followed by a premiere on TeenNick at 10:56 p.m. ET. For those who can't wait for the video premiere, a 30-second sneak peek of "The Story of Us" will air during VH1's "Big Morning Buzz Live" on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. ET/PT. The full video will also appear on "VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown" on Saturday, May 28, at 9 a.m. ET/PT.
"The Story of Us" is the fourth single from Swift's chart-topping album. It follows "Mine," "Back to December" and her country-tinged track "Mean." As for this song, well, she explains that it was inspired by one awkward awards show encounter.
"That actually happened during what ended up inspiring the last song I wrote for this record called 'Story of Us,' "Swift explained to MTV News last year about the song. "And I was at an awards show, and there was a guy there, obviously — it all starts there, doesn't it? It was a guy I had been in a relationship with, falling out, then we end up at the same awards show," she continued. "Both trying to act like we don't care ... both like, you know, chatting up the people next to us."
After the incident, she knew there was enough emotion there to write a song. "Afterward, I just felt so empty, like we were both fighting this silent war of pretending we didn't care that the other was there," she said. "And I went home, and I wrote this song about it. And at that point, I had this gut feeling, and I knew the album was finished."
Don't miss the premiere of Taylor Swift's "The Story of Us" video, on Tuesday, May 24, at 7:53 p.m. ET on MTV, followed by our live "MTV First" interview with Taylor Swift on MTV.com!

Circus siblings Karen Feld and Kenneth Feld?s explosive family feud blows up again in federal court

One of Washington?s most enduring family feuds ignited again ? and again ? in federal court last week.

Karen Feld ? daughter of late circus mogul Irvin Feld ? shrieked at her brother?s lawyer and stormed from the courtroom where she is suing him for having her thrown out of their aunt?s 2007 memorial service. Later, Kenneth Feld burst into tears on the witness stand. Things got so hot the judge posted a security guard in the room.
The siblings have been at odds for decades, since their father?s will cut her out of the family business in the ?80s, leaving Kenneth at the helm of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. A reunion at their Aunt Shirley?s shiva went badly: She claims she was injured when her brother had guards remove her; he?s countersuing for trespass, saying she disrupted the event with a foul-mouthed tirade.

'American Idol' In 60 Seconds: Scotty And Lauren Sing To The End

Haley Reinhart is eliminated on "American Idol"

There's only one week left of "American Idol" season 10 (or one day before the end of the world), so if you have some last-minute cramming to do before the end, we suggest looking back at our previous "Idol" in 60 Seconds recaps. For now, here's the script rounding up everything you need to know about how America said goodbye to Haley and voted two country singers into the finale:

This week the top three got to sing three songs each, but in three rounds, two hours and nine songs, only two minutes mattered.
[Clip: Beyoncé's "Who Rule the World (Girls)" video.]
No, not Beyoncé's video, although ... [Jim grabs a personal recording device, speaks into it] Note to self: Memorize Beyoncé's dance moves before the world ends this Saturday.
Where was I? Oh, right! Haley Reinhart, whose Led Zeppelin cover was a groundbreaking collaboration with her dad AND with gravity!
But then things went from great to good to god awful, while Scotty and Lauren kept things country strong. Well, country able.
Hey, judges! Care to make this night all about you?
[Montage of judges: Randy: "I produced the version of it with Boyz II Men." J. Lo: "I was just performing to 20,000 people." Steven: "Lee Ann's a good friend of mine, too."]
You guys are in it to w... waste time.
On Thursday night's results show ... that's not Rihanna [showing Nicole Scherzinger's performance]. That's not Il Divo [showing Il Volo's performance].
I dare you to make this more unpleasant.
[Clip of Elle Fanning squealing during her interview with Seacrest.]
And hometown visits, where Haley fought the rain, Lauren's mom fought for screen time and Scotty fought the waterworks. But wait, did that bitch just steal a girl's donut?!!
[Clip: Lauren Alaina makes it to the finale with Scotty.]
Oh, America. You have no taste. OK, that's not fair. You do have taste ... for baby food!

Connie Smith to Unveil a 'Long Line of Heartaches'

Filed under: Albums, Legends, Country News

Rick Diamond, Getty Images

Dolly Parton once famously said, "There are only three female singers in the world; [Barbra] Streisand, [Linda] Ronstadt and Connie Smith. The rest of us are only pretending." That's perhaps one reason new music from longtime Grand Ole Opry member Connie Smith can be celebrated as an "event." Of course, the other reason might just be that the last album Connie released came nearly 13 years ago -- and its predecessor arrived in 1978.

'Long Line of Heartaches,' Connie's 54th album, is set for release on Sugar Hill Records on August 23. The collection promises to be business as usual for the country singer whose most memorable hits include 'Cincinnati, Ohio,' 'Just One Time' and the record-setting 'Once a Day.' That 1964 smash, written by Bill Anderson, spent eight weeks at No. 1, becoming the first debut hit by a female artist to ever top the chart. The new album, she declares, will continue in the traditional vein.

Kid Rock is returning as host of the CMT Music Awards!

The Detroit rocker, who made his hosting debut last year, is thrilled to make an encore performance -- for reasons other than reprising his role as emcee. "Hosting the CMT Awards was a wonderful bridge to a great after party," he tells Us Weekly. "I'm looking forward to crossing that bridge again this year."

The 'Born Free' singer is also nominated for a CMT belt buckle trophy for Collaborative Video of the Year for his song, 'Collide,' which features his summer touring partner, Sheryl Crow. But while most of his music leans more towards hip-hop than traditional country music, the 40-year-old says he actually fits right in with the genre.

Drake Leaks First Song From Take Care

'Dreams Money Can Buy' is reportedly intro track to rapper's forthcoming sophomore album.By Alvin Blanco

Drake

Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images

Young Money's Drake set the hip-hop world afire Friday (May 20) morning when he officially leaked "Dreams Money Can Buy" from his forthcoming sophomore album, Take Care. The song was made available via a post on Drizzy's October's Very Own blog and quickly began making the file-sharing rounds.
Besides an MP3 download link, the post contained this message: "A song that I felt the need to share. Not my single. Just a piece of my story. Hear me out though..." Reportedly, "Dreams Money Can Buy" is Take Care's intro track. Drake's blog post was accompanied by an image with text that reads, "This is a story of dreams mixed with reality."
True to its title, the song is filled with quotables clearly taken from the pages of Drake's charmed rap life. In the first verse he muses on juggling different women and on how his success (Thank Me Later has been certified platinum) hasn't necessarily made his life any less stressful. "And comfortable I sit, in manual Ferrari Italian, some fly sh--/ But it's sitting at the house like I bought it in '96, 'cause honestly I'm too busy to drive stick," he raps.
In the second verse Drake addresses rival MCs and past rumors that he was on the outs with Lil Wayne and the YMCMB crew. "Can't tell ya how much I love when n---as think they got it/ And I love the fact that line made them think about it," Drake slickly spits at the beginning of the verse, followed by, "I am CMB, these n---as make it so hard to be friendly when I know part of it's envy."
Rap conspiracy theorists are going to have a field day speculating on whom Drake is possibly referring to with a "top five" line in the same verse. "I feel like lately it went from top five to remaining five, my favorite rappers either lost it or they ain't alive/ And they trying to bring us down, me Weezy and Stunna, we stayed up, Christmas lights in the middle of summer." One rapper Drake himself claims he is not referring to is Jay-Z. "Hov diss? Hov of all people has not lost it ... that's god body flow," Drake tweeted.
Drake's longtime collaborator Noah "40" Shebib produced the song's hauntingly ambient track, which features a prominent sample of British singer/songwriter Jai Paul's "BTSTU." A vocal swipe of "Don't f--- with me, don't f--- with me" from Paul's song is used as the hook for Drake's record.
The "Best I Ever Had" rapper had fallen back on recording after dropping his debut, Thank Me Later. But with talk of collaborating with the Weeknd, guesting on DJ Khaled's "I'm on One" with Lil Wayne and Rick Ross — essentially a Drake record — and now "Dreams Money Can Buy," the Toronto rapper's brief sabbatical is officially over.
What do you think of Drake's newest track? We want to hear from you in the comments!

Bono and Edge Discuss Saving 'Spider-Man' on 'GMA' (VIDEO)

Filed under: TV ReplayThis morning on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM on ABC), Bono and the Edge were presented with a New York Times review of 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' that said "it may rank amongst the worst musicals ever made." Considering Bono and the Edge wrote the music for the show, that had to sting a little. But surprisingly, Bono said he and his U2 bandmate don't necessarily disagree.

Julie Taymor, who directed the Broadway adaptation of 'The Lion King,' left the project and it has been rewritten and re-launched in previews. "Julie would not accept this, but she got very close to it," said Bono. "So close perhaps that she couldn't see it. And we were going at it and coming back, and we could see very clearly what we thought were the problems."

Bono said the characters and plot are better drawn in the new version, and they've fixed a lot of "obvious stuff." The most obvious hopefully would be the rigs that lift the actors and other safety hazards that have plagued the show and made it an easy punch line. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Cali Swag District's M-Bone Remembered By New Boyz

Legacy and Ben J send prayers to Mante 'M-Bone' Talbert's family.By Rob Markman

New Boyz' Legacy and Ben J

Photo: MTV News

As hip-hop continues to mourn the death of Cali Swag District member Mante "M-Bone" Talbert, MTV News asked Legacy and Ben J of New Boyz to reflect on M-Bone's life.
"What we feel can't compare to what the homeys Cali Swag District feel," Ben J said. "We knew him, we hung out with him, had a couple of times, and it was great times. Just the fact that I knew him, it kinda hurt me when I heard about that. I dropped a couple of tears, man.

"It wasn't his time, real talk. He had a lot of success to go."
New Boyz, like Cali Swag District, got recognition as part of the hip-hop dance scene that emerged out of California. The Boyz gained notoriety with their 2009 platinum dance single "You're a Jerk," and Cali Swag with their 2010 hit "Teach Me How to Dougie." The two groups would cross paths at radio stations and show venues during their respective promotional runs, and New Boyz even went on to appear in CSD's "Dougie" video.
"I think it's real messed up that somebody gotta hate on another person," Legacy said. "I don't really know the situation, but it never has to escalate to that. And dude was real talented. He was making money, having a good time, living his dream.
"My prayers go out to Cali Swag, M-Bone's family, everybody. Rest in peace, M-Bone."
On Sunday, Bone was gunned down in a drive-by shooting on La Brea Avenue in Inglewood, California. Police are still investigating the murder and are asking anyone with information to call its homicide division at (310) 412-5246 or its 24-hour anonymous hotline at (888) 41 CRIME or (888) 412-7463.
Stay tuned to MTV News for further details as this story develops.

It?s been more than four months since one of Congress?s best golfers was elected speaker of the House. But John Boehner has yet to hit the links with the Duffer-in-Chief.
Early on, Boehner suggested he?d be glad to play a few rounds with President Obama ? whenever he was asked about it, anyway, by golf-fixated journalists. ?Of course? he?d play POTUS, he told Fox?s Chris Wallace in January, though ?I?m sure I?ll have to give him strokes.? White House officials made similar agreeable-sounding noises at the time.

Mel Gibson: Dining with Royalty

Fresh off of his big promotional appearance at Cannes, Mel Gibson made his way to spend time with royalty in Monaco on Thursday (May 19).
The recently scandal-plagued actor was photographed as he hopped aboard a port-set vessel to dine on a surely exquisite lunch with the Prince Albert II.
Having spent time in Cannes for the premiere of his upcoming film "The Beaver," Mel recently chatted about returning to his career after a lengthy break.
He told, "I got to a place where I thought, you know, I don't even know if I want to do this, and walked away for awhile. I think I just walked away for about eight years. Cause you can keep grinding on the same bicycle and the chain starts to wear out."
Adding that the break was helpful in terms of rejuvenation, Gibson said, "So when you come back to it, it's kind of, it's interesting again. Not only because you've been absent from it for awhile, but because a lot of the factors around, including yourself have gone through some change."

Kid Rock Will Return as Host of the CMT Music Awards

Jason Merritt, Getty Images

'Hunger Games' Star Jennifer Lawrence's First Photo As Katniss Revealed

Actress tells Entertainment Weekly she would 'regret it every day' if she had turned down high-profile role.By Kara Warner

The excitement surrounding the big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins' beloved best-seller "The Hunger Games" has hit a new high with the release of the first official photo of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen on the cover of this week's Entertainment Weekly.
In the photo, Lawrence is shown staring directly at the camera, with her long, now-dark hair in a braid, bow and arrow in hand, quiver over her shoulder, and mockingjay pin secured on her jacket. It also appears that Lawrence-as-Katniss is standing in the middle of a bright green forest.
The photo is accompanied by an interview with Lawrence, who described her first encounter with "Hunger Games" director Gary Ross during the height of Oscar season.
"He was asking me what the experience was like," she recalled, "and I just kind of opened up and said, 'I feel like a rag doll. I have hair and makeup people coming to my house every day and putting me in new, uncomfortable, weird dresses and expensive shoes, and I just shut down and raise my arms up for them to get the dress on, and pout my lips when they need to put the lipstick on.' And we both started laughing because that's exactly what it's like for Katniss in the Capitol. She was a girl who's all of a sudden being introduced to fame. I know what that feels like to have all this flurry around you and feel like, 'Oh, no, I don't belong here.' "
The 20-year-old Oscar nominee went on to say that when she was offered the role, she had mixed emotions about taking on such a high-profile character, but in the end, her passion for the project pushed her forward.
"I love this story," she said, "and if I had said no, I would regret it every day."
Check out everything we've got on "The Hunger Games."

Upfronts Update: The Best and Worst Things About the New Fall Season

Filed under: Reality-Free, TV News, Stay TunedWe're in the midst of Upfront Week, which is when the networks present their fall schedules to advertisers and to the world.

Four of the five broadcast networks have already presented their 2011-12 rosters, and via clips and show descriptions, it's possible to discern that which is good or at least interesting ('Lost' is back! Sort of! Not really!) and that which is disheartening or downright bad (My God, ABC, what have you done!?), all of which I present below.

The Top 6 Good Things about the Next Season of Television

Get ready for some interesting scheduling moves.
CBS, the most conservative network, has decided to move two of its flagship programs: 'CSI' is migrating to Wednesdays and 'The Good Wife' will air on Sundays next season. 'The Good Wife' is such a gem that I hope this scheduling move doesn't hurt the show. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Cannes: Politics Hit Festival As Obama, Sarkozy Are Dissed In Official Films

Cannes has never been a place to shy away from politics. It's not enough that official competition entry Melancholia's director Lars Von Trier stirred thingsup Wednesdayby singling out Hitler and Nazis for his admiration forcing the Festival to ask for an apology, the last couple of days have also seenPresidential politicscreep into the fest lineup in a very prominent way with eyebrow-raisingequal opportunity disses thrown at President Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy in two very different films screeningin the official selection.
Before the Festival began on May 11 we reported rampant rumors that Sarkozy might be attendingthe Cannes kickoffsince his wife, Carla Bruni was appearing in theopening nightfilm selection, Midnight In Paris. As it turned out neither showed on the red carpet but Wednesday Sarkozy finally made his debut in Cannes -- sort of. The night's main event, an out of competition premiere showing of The Conquest launched the nationwide start of what can only be described as a french Primary Colors (a veiled story of Bill Clinton). Unlike that movie this one about the rise to power of French President Nicolas Sarkozy was not even thinly disguised, using real names and actors who look exactly like the real-life players. Sarkozy cannot be very happy with this portrait which paints him as a master manipulator who was ... 6 Reasons I Didn't Like the 'How I Met Your Mother' Season 6 Finale (and 3 Reasons I Did)

Last night marked the end of How I Met Your Mother season 6, a season that has taken us through fun and touching highs (Marshall's storyline with his father, and Robin Sparkles three, y'all!) and painful lows (pretty much anything to do with Zoey). Unfortunately, "Challenge Accepted" ended the chapter on a mostly low note. Here's why:1. The return of Zoey. If I had just one word, it would be this: REALLY? Sure, Ted's almost reconciliation with her laid the groundwork for Barney and Robin to project and finally lay out their own residual feelings for each other, but did we actually have to see Zoey again for that to happen? And did Ted have to close out the season like a total goon for that to happen? No. The answer to both is no. And instead of giving me the ol' Barney and Robin warm and fuzzies, all that plotline did was remind me what a stinker this entire Zoey story has been. If "new is always better," then why did they (the gang, and the show) drag out that completely unlikable character fooor sooo looong? Oh, and speaking of dragging, how about that ...

Death Cab For Cutie's Codes And Keys: Alone Together

New album sees frontman Ben Gibbard getting happy while feeling more alone than ever, in Bigger Than the Sound.By James Montgomery

Death Cab For Cutie's <i>Codes and Keys</i>

Photo: Atlantic Records

"Some boys don't know how to love," Ben Gibbard sings on Death Cab for Cutie's new Codes and Keys album, perhaps unaware of the fact that he's just summed up the band's entire career in the process.
Of course, the object of that love — self, location, family, girls — has never really been as important as the sentiment itself. Death Cab truly are at their best when they're at their lowest, their most lost, be it on songs like "Styrofoam Plates" and "405" or albums like Transatlanticism and Narrow Stairs. They are, for all intents and purposes, a band that seems incapable of solving the eternal quandaries of the heart.

So what, then, will fans make of Keys, an album written after Gibbard did just that, marrying actress Zooey Deschanel and getting sober in the process (as he recently revealed to Spin magazine)? In keeping with that newfound clarity, he describes the disc as "more balanced than ever," displaying "a more even emotional palette" than the morose Stairs. And when those quotes are taken in context with the winging, wide-eyed guitars of first single "You Are a Tourist," perhaps the alarms begin to go off: Is it possible Gibbard has left his sad-sack past behind him? Has he finally figured out how to love?
Well, yes and no. Because while Codes and Keys (which hits stores May 31) certainly beams with rays of positivity, those rays are often obscured by the same dark clouds that have always dotted Death Cab's horizons. "Tourist" is a perfect example of this. Sure, it brims with sonic sunshine, but lyrically, there's a darkness to it, an urge to free oneself from the constraints of emotion and geography. "Unobstructed Views" pulls the same trick, only in reverse, starting off with a somber, piano-driven introduction before slowly blossoming into a full-blown paean to affection, with Gibbard repeating the mantra "Just our love/ Just our love."
In fact, with matters of the heart seemingly squared away, Gibbard turns his attention to the world at large, and, in the process, discovers that he's probably more lost than ever. Codes and Keys is a record about longing to feel connected in increasingly disconnected times, to find meaning in the possessions we surround ourselves with, to receive comfort in home, even if — as I wrote last week when the band unveiled some of the record live in Seattle — no one's quite sure where home is these days.
And it's in the moments where that longing becomes so sharp that it breaks the surface of the skin — songs like album opener "Home Is a Fire," the roiling "Doors Unlocked and Open," "Portable Television" and the chilly "St. Peter's Cathedral" — that Codes and Keys really hits its stride. Gibbard fills them with mentions of unblinking pane glass, unrelenting freeway traffic, unfeeling concrete and unmoving monuments to our faith. His bandmates match him every step of the way, particularly the rhythm section of Nick Harmer and Jason McGerr, who provide a propulsive slipstream on which Gibbard's words zip endlessly toward the skyline. And as both a player and a producer, Chris Walla fills the album with plenty of atmospheric touches — echoed harmonies, wiry, barely there guitar jags, hissing room tones, pulsing, burbling synthesizers — ensuring that we all get the message Keys is trying to convey: that no matter how safe, secure, ensconced or attached we all may feel, we are still all alone, and we will probably die that way.
In short, Codes and Keys is an ode to alienation, and no matter how hard Gibbard tries to push against that fact (like on saccharine album-closer "Stay Young Go Dancing," when he keens, "And oh, how I feel alive/ Though winter's advancing/ We'll stay young, go dancing"), he can't seem to change the inevitable outcome. And that conflict between the head and the heart is the key to the album's success. It is very much a temporal thing, an album made for no other time than right now. Because falling in love is a centuries-old concept at this point; falling apart while remaining eternally connected, now that's a new problem.

It's hard to know exactly what Bill wanted from Jackie by asking her to come to his place for a score.

Since Jackie has a history of bartering sex for drugs, her showing up at the building suggested that she was ready to give it up for a fix or two. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Matraca Berg Visits 'Dreaming Fields' on First CD in 14 Years

Matraca Berg's last album, 'Sunday Morning to Saturday Night,' released a mere 14 years ago, was hailed by USA Today, Time, Entertainment Weekly and People, among others, as one of the year's Top 10 releases.

Now the songwriter whose tunes have been covered by Kenny Chesney ('You and Tequila'), Trisha Yearwood ('Wrong Side of Memphis'), Martina McBride ('Wild Angels'), Reba McEntire ('The Last One to Know') and Deana Carter ('Strawberry Wine') among countless others, returns with her own moody, enigmatic collection, 'The Dreaming Fields,' out Tuesday (May 17) on Dualtone. [Listen to the full album here.]

"I knew when I was writing these songs, the ones that I was drawn to ... that they deserved to be heard," says the Nashville native, who landed her first No. 1 single as an 18-year-old songwriter with 'Faking Love' (recorded by T.G. Sheppard and Karen Brooks). "They were a bit deeper and darker than a lot of what's happening, so I knew it was up to me. I'd done some shows with various girlfriends, and when you look at the women -- and the men -- in the audience, I realized these stories I'm writing are their stories too. So, making sure they get to them became important to me."

Fox Schedule Intel: 'Terra Nova' On Monday?

Right after NBC, it is Fox's presenting its fall schedule tomorrow. After making some major scheduling moves last year with shifting American Idol to Wednesdays and Thursdays and launching a Glee-anchored comedy block on Tuesdays, the network is expected to bet on stability this year, especially after both gambles this season largely paid off. Idol is expected to keep its Wednesday-Thursday airing pattern, which would be mirrored in the fall by TheX Factor, whose 90-minute Wednesday show will probably be used to launch a new comedy the way American Idol has done it.
I hear the most anticipated new Fox series, prehistoric drama Terra Nova, which had been rumored to launch either on Monday or Thursday, looks Monday-bound. Conventional wisdom has it that Fox should use a reliable performer like House to launch its highest-profile new series, and that has been the scenario most speculated about. ButTerra Nova has tested great as a four-quadrant show with a very broad appeal, so I won't be surprised if Fox decides to make a switch and put Terra Nova at 8 PM to capture the family audience. Terra Nova doesn't really need a lead-in -- after all, it's a Steven Spielberg-produced show with dinosaurs -- so it could be a self-starter like Glee proved to be this season. And ... Read More »

While newcomer and Alabama native Jacob Lyda may have moved to Nashville in 2006 to pursue his career as a country singer, his mind is never far from his family and friends back home. After tornadoes blew through his hometown of Stevenson, Ala. last month, Jacob immediately traveled south to witness the wreckage first-hand.

"Thankfully, everyone in my family is OK," Jacob writes on his website. "My family is working through major damage to our possessions and property; it's going to be a long road. My thoughts and prayers go out to friends and neighbors who have lost their lives in this devastating tragedy."

Jacob may reside in Music City, but he wasn't immune to the destruction. A home he still owns in the area suffered severe roof damage and every window in the house was blown out. In addition, a garage containing two classic trucks that he was restoring with his father was destroyed.

Do you find yourself humming Reba McEntire's new single, 'When Love Gets a Hold of You,' while lying in bed at night? Well, she does too! The country music superstar recalls one sleepless night when she realized she may have let the latest offering from her 'All the Women I Am' album slip through her fingers.

"I was thinking, 'Oh my gosh, is that a song on the radio, or is that a song I've been hearing out of all of the demos? ... And have I put it on hold?'" Reba explains to GAC, recounting one evening during the album making process.

The country icon quickly called her record label to secure the song, penned by Jessi Alexander, Jon Randall and Gary Nicholson.

Brad Paisley Drives Into Theaters With 'Cars 2' Soundtrack

Filed under: Country News, Movies and TV

Rick Diamond, Getty Images

Brad Paisley is not only heading to stores with his brand new album, 'This Is Country Music,' at the end of the month, but he is also racing toward theaters nationwide. The country superstar will be heard in the forthcoming Pixar animated film, 'Cars 2.'

Brad contributes two songs to the new soundtrack, including a duet with British pop star Robbie Williams. 'Collision of Worlds' is described as "a cool rock 'n' roll song," a departure from what Brad is used to, but seems to capture the essence of the movie and is played over the end of the credits. "The song is a rock vocal event with one of the most talented people I've ever met, Robbie Williams," notes Brad. "It was ['Cars' director and Pixar executive John Lasseter's] idea to bring these two worlds together -- combining the English and American takes on music. We're both out of our comfort zone, seeing what happens when you're forced into going new places, which is really what 'Cars 2' is about. It's totally parallel to the story."

Miss Willie Brown Begin Fateful Journey to Country Stardom

Filed under: Exclusive, Interviews, Country News, New Faces

The Green Room PR

Miss Willie Brown can attest to the truth of the old saying "Sometimes the best plan is to have a little good luck." How else to explain the fate that brought Amanda Watkins of West Virginia and Kasey Buckley of Texas together? Kasey wasn't even a singer when the two first met, both working at a Los Angeles diner to earn some cash while they sought their big breaks.

A friendship formed, then a writing partnership that fused their eclectic musical tastes into a signature sound. Now the pair are signed to A&M/Octone Records, are on the 2011 Jägermeister Country tour with Dierks Bentley and Josh Thompson and are looking ahead to the release of a full-length album next year.

Just before they boarded the bus to head out on tour, the two took a short break to talk to The Boot about how the stars aligned for them.

The two of you met in Los Angeles yet opted to write country music. Why not indie rock or pop, which seem to fuel the L.A. music scene?

Kasey: It literally wasn't a decision. It is just what happened, what we gravitated naturally toward. It wasn't like we said, 'We should be a rock band.' We started writing songs and they were what they were. It just came naturally to us, country, and how our voices meld.

Rick Kaplan Leaving CBS News (TVNewser)
CBS Evening News executive producer Rick Kaplan announced in an afternoon meeting that Thursday would be his last day with the broadcast and with CBS News, departing even before the show's anchor, Katie Couric. NYT / Media Decoder: Kaplan rejoined CBS four years ago to run Couric's newscast. He had first worked there in the 1970s when Walter Cronkite was the Evening News anchor. He spent most of the 1980s and 1990s in senior producer positions at ABC News, and later became the president of both CNN/U.S. (from 1997-2000) and MSNBC (from 2004-2006).

Time Inc. Parts With Another Jack Griffin Hire: John Q. Griffin, Head Of The News Group (AdAge / MediaWorks)
Time Inc. is parting ways with another executive hired during the brief reign of Jack Griffin, who was ousted in February after about five months in the post. This time it's John Q. Griffin, the former National Geographic executive recruited in December to be executive vice president and president of the newly created news group, comprising Time, Fortune, Money, and Life. paidContent: Griffin's exit comes one day after Time Inc. said it had hired News Corp. digital business development executive Perry Solomon in a similar role. NY Post: The Griffins have left the building. Adweek: His departure follows those of Peter Kreisky and Randall Rothenberg, other Jack Griffin hires who also left in the wake of his firing after five months. Carl Icahn Loses Again: Canadian Court OKs Lionsgate Effort To Thwart His Hostile Bid

Billionaire Carl Icahn suffered another setback today in his hostile takeover attempt of Lionsgate. The Court of Appeal forBritishColumbiaupheld a lower court ruling that Lionsgate had acted appropriately last year when it allowed a lender to swap his debt for equity. Icahn charged that the move was designed tokeep Lionsgate management entrenched by diluting his stake in the film and TV production company. But the Canadian courts agreed with Lionsgate that the transaction was prudent. The company did not have to "forego the opportunity to reduce Lionsgate's debt by some $100 million in order to preserve the status quo for Icahn's benefit," the Court of Appeal said. Earlier, the New York Supreme Court rejected a similar charge by Icahn that Lionsgate's debt-for-equity swap violated the company's fiduciary responsibilities to its shareholders.

What Is Lady Gaga Like? 'Judas' Co-Stars Weigh In!

'Gaga's a super cool girl from New York,' Norman Reedus tells MTV News.By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Matt Elias

Lady Gaga is many things to many people. She's a pop star, a fashionista and a voice for those who feel they can't speak for themselves. In her video for "Judas," she took on a new role: Mary Magdalene. MTV News caught up with both Judas (Norman Reedus) and Jesus (Rick Gonzalez) from the clip, and they shared what Gaga is really like to work with.
"Gaga's a super cool girl from New York," Reedus said. "She's religious; she does prayers. We have some mutual friends, I think. She says prayers with her people before she goes out onstage, I've heard, and she's very much a group player. And she's not weird at all. She's actually an artist who believes in what she's doing and really takes the bull by the horns and is not afraid to say what she wants to say."

His "Judas" co-star, Gonzalez, said that a lot of her coolness is reflected in her partnership with creative director Laurieann Gibson. "When I first met [Gaga], she was very passionate and very driven. I was really impressed and found a newfound respect for her, because she's such a hardworking woman and so dedicated and very creative," Gonzalez said. "And her, with Laurieann, they make such a great team together.
"I think you're going to see a lot more amazing things with them, 'cause they totally have this synergy," he continued. "And I've overheard them say it: They're totally going to do a lot more things together. So I'm excited to see what that's stuff going to be. ... It's really impressive."
While a lot of the time Gaga seems to offend someone with what she's doing, Reedus said that's not her intention.
"She's cool enough where she's just not trying to offend people to offend people. I mean, who does that? She's actually super talented and she's a machine," Reedus said. "That girl works really, really hard. ... I felt sort of lazy around her. It was kind of inspiring."
What's your impression of Gaga? Let us know in the comments!
